For the exhibition, A Natural Phenomenon at Espace Odyssée in Gatineau, Canada (August 23-October 6, 2013) there were many space limitations due to the fact that the gallery also served as the theater lobby. In order to show my large installation, The Forest, I needed to pack it tightly into a recessed alcove. My solution was to create a new backdrop for the piece to create an illusion, as if the legs were walking out of the forest. This was achieved by photographing the work in Joaquin Miller Park, Oakland, California, with several assistants including Alejandra Avila, Matanda Rath Keyes, and Stephanie Ang (who shot the photos) and then digitally printing onto silk habotai fabric. Additional "legs" and "shoes" were stitched to the new backdrop before the installation in Canada.
