My interest in stitching led me to Goldsmiths’ College in London for a year of postgraduate study. While I was learning machine embroidery techniques I also became fascinated with the formal English gardens.
For my degree show I created a walk-in installation reminiscent of an English garden with an almost prison like formality.
The space was 10’ x 10’ with a foam floor and inside was a book with my writings and blank pages for viewer comments. The piece was meant to reflect my view of living in London at that time-a society which seemed preoccupied with formality and controlled behavior .
